Amy Carello, LPCMH, NCC, M.Ed.
I love working with adolescents, emerging adults (ages 18-28), adults, and the seasoned citizen populations. Earlier in my career, I taught health and physical education, served as a school counselor, coached various sports teams, and worked as a fitness trainer in my spare time to complement the connection of physical health and mental health. The role that enamored me the most and launched me into focusing primarily on mental health was serving as a counselor with Division I student-athletes. I value all that I learned from numerous people from various backgrounds, and continue to learn from every person that affords me the privilege of walking through their life challenges, tragedies, recoveries, and successes with them.
In February of 2015, I went into private practice, and opened Thrive Counseling LLC. I served as a solo practice mental health practitioner for the past 7 years until recently in October of 2021, Counseling Associates of Delaware came to fruition with my colleague and business partner, Wes Jones, LCSW. We decided to create Counseling Associates of Delaware in response and anticipation of the continued need for mental health services in the community. We wanted to have the ability to refer clients to people that we know, and would send our own family members to for support.
The challenges I address fall into the areas of managing anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, various forms of grief, life transitions (“failure to launch”-young adult population),break-ups, separation, divorce, career change, retirement, and counseling grandparents who are the primary and many times only caregivers raising their grandchildren. My treatment approach is under the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy umbrella, and is Person-Centered (got to love Carl Rogers!) in nature. I also utilize Compassion Focused Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Coaching and Consultation when appropriate. My modality is with individuals and when appropriate their families as an extension of their journey attaining and maintaining wellness.
